About the Melbourne Cup
The Melbourne Cup is Australia’s most popular horse race. The Cup, as it is affectionately known, is a handicap event run over 3200m at the Flemington racetrack. Typically, 24 horses make up the Cup field in any given year, and horses must qualify for the race. The total prizemoney on offer for the 2021 Melbourne Cup is $7,750,000.
